Licence and updates

Pro licence management, multiple devices, and how updates work (v1.x free, v2+ upgrade policy).

This page explains how your Pro licence works: deactivating, changing laptop, using two laptops, and how updates and version upgrades work.

What happens if I deactivate my Pro licence?

If you deactivate your licence (e.g. from the licence management page or support), the app will revert to the free tier on that machine. Your data stays on your Mac; you just lose access to Pro features (unlimited properties, multiple CSVs per property, merge) until you activate a valid licence again.

I'm changing laptop. Can I use my Pro licence on the new Mac?

Yes. Deactivate or remove the licence on the old Mac if possible (to free the slot), then activate your licence on the new Mac using the same licence key or account. If your licence is tied to a limited number of devices, deactivating on the old one allows activation on the new one.

Can I use Hostfolio Pro on two laptops?

It depends on your licence type. Some licences allow a limited number of active devices (e.g. one or two). Check your licence terms or the place where you purchased (e.g. Gumroad, website). If you're allowed two devices, you can activate on both; if only one, you need to deactivate on one Mac before activating on another.

How do updates work? Do I pay for new versions?

  • Version 1.x: All updates within the 1.x line (e.g. 1.1, 1.2) are free for Pro users. You get bug fixes and new features without paying again.
  • From version 2 onward: Major version upgrades (e.g. 1.x → 2.x) may require a paid upgrade if we introduce a new version policy. You will be informed when that happens.
  • Your current version remains usable: If you don't upgrade to a paid major version, the version you have (e.g. 1.x) continues to work. We don't disable or time-limit the version you already own; you just won't get the new major version's features until you purchase the upgrade if we charge for it.
